The Emerald Award
The Emerald Award recognizes and honors women who have made significant contributions to the African American community through achievement in five areas: The Arts, Services to Youth, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services and Health and Human Services. These five areas represent the Facet programmatic emphasis of the Links, Incorporated.
In establishing the Emerald Award recognition program, the goals of the Raleigh Chapter of the Links, Incorporated for this activity are:
-
To honor women who have been successful in their professions or careers; who have made contributions to North Carolina, the United States or internationally and to recognize what they inspire or motivate in others.
-
To host an annual invitational event that will showcase the programmatic activities of the Chapter.
-
To commemorate the April 18, 1949 chartering of the Raleigh (NC) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated.
-
To bring about positive change in the community.
-
To enrich, sustain positive images and role models for the African American community especially the youth.
-
To raise funds for implementing Facet programs.
The Significance of the Award Gift to the Honorees
The official colors of the Links are white and emerald green. The gift selected for the 2018 award honorees is an Emerald and Pearl Gold necklace, thereby aligning with the colors of the Links. We believe the selection of this necklace provides an attractive feminine keepsake (memento) that the honorees can wear proudly on many occassions. The emerald is one of the most highly valued and treasured of all jewels. Emeralds have natural facets -- which makes it a perfect symbol of the five Facet Areas for the Links and the categories of the Emerald Award. The beautiful faceted emerald is a power stone and said to encourage clear vision, faith, intelligence inspiration, joy, harmony, justice, unity and friendship. The pearl symbolizes overcoming adversity through radiant transcendence. In some cultures, the pearl is seen as an emblem for feminine power, begetting birth and is said to have the power to heal or protect from harm.
